Night With A Geographer
COGA inaugurated talks with professional geographers at the Museum of Discovery in Fort Collins, and followed this with series in Pueblo at the Steelworks Center of the West and at Mountain Chalet in Colorado Springs. Designed to bring professional geographer's thoughts and insights on current topics to the public, these talks were geared towards educators with time set aside for a question and answer session and open discussion afterwards. Do you have ideas about a geographer and a location you would like to bring together? Contact coga@uccs.edu.
Geography Awareness Week
Geography Awareness Week (GAW), celebrated every third week of November, is an awareness program focused on highlighting the importance of geo-literacy and geo-education. A new theme for each year is announced in midsummer accompanied by related online resources and activities, which are then available year-round. Read more about the purpose and history of Geography Awareness Week.
Geographic Bees
Each year thousands of schools in the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject, and increase public awareness about geography. Schools with students in grades four through eight are eligible for this entertaining and challenging test of geographic knowledge.
